PICKERING LABORATORIES REPORTS ON POST-COLUMN DERIVATIZATION R&D
NEW SYSTEM FROM POST-COLUMN LEADER TO DETECT LOWER CONCENTRATION OF ANALYTES
MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. – January 27, 2004 – Pickering Laboratories, a worldwide leader in the design, manufacture and supply of post-column derivatization instruments and consumables, reported results of an R&D effort today that will raise standards industry-wide by advancing the ability to detect chemical compounds during HPLC analysis.
Pickering Laboratories is the only company in the HPLC industry focused entirely on post-column systems, chemistries, methods and software for the analytical market. Pickering systems enable HPLC analysis of difficult to detect compounds very specifically and reproducibly. For HPLC analysis of amino acids, herbicides, pesticides and other compounds, the systems, chemistry and methods from Pickering assures the consistency of results needed by today’s laboratories.
“Our customers can be confident they get accurate results in HPLC analysis and long-term value from the commitment we continue to place on innovation,” said Michael Pickering, Ph.D., president and founder of Pickering Laboratories, Inc. “Other companies provide post-column systems that are limited in scope and support because they lack the research investment dedication Pickering Laboratories has demonstrated over the last 23 years,” Pickering said.
The demand for consistently reliable methods to quantify and analyze environmental and biological compounds is growing with pressure on laboratories to achieve higher throughput and meet tighter deadlines. Individual Pickering products exceed these goals through multi-residue analysis, faster extractions in crop testing, and control software that simplifies the task of HPLC analysis.
Regulatory Agencies Specify Pickering
Dominant in the contract outsource laboratory market, Pickering methodologies have been referenced in regulations for testing water quality by the Environmental Protection Agency. Other Pickering methods have been officially validated by the Association of Analytical Communities.
Moreover, Pickering Laboratories is an important vendor for complete post-column systems, columns, chromatographic grade chemicals and reagents to the EPA, the Food and Drug Administration and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, as well as state agricultural laboratories.
Pickering’s relationship with regulatory agencies allows it to react quickly to the changing needs of clients working on compliance issues. Customers in heavily regulated industries have the assurance ofknowing the best way to meet government mandates is to rely on the company that sets the standard.
Pickering Laboratories maintains leadership in the post-column HPLC field by continuing to improve the sensitivity, longevity and efficiency of its product line.
At Pittcon 2004, Pickering will introduce its latest advancement in HPLC analysis – tentatively named the Hyperion Post-Column Derivitazation System–which builds on the success of the Pickering PCX5200 with unsurpassed precision for selectively separating and detecting analytes.
The Hyperion’s syringe pump is pulse-free, producing cleaner readings than other post-column instruments and detecting even lower concentrations of analytes without distorting the base line. The pump runs only during the injection cycle, as opposed to the reciprocating pumps in other systems that run continuously, extending pump and piston seal lifecycle significantly and reducing the amount of costly reagents consumed.
The Hyperion works with all brands of HPLC systems, and is completely configurable to separate complex mixtures and detect a wide range of compounds with the highest degree of sensitivity, stability and reproducibility. It features an automatic piston wash, automatic flush cycle and PC software control that is network enabled.
